　全体的にスローかミディアム・テンポの軽快な楽曲が多い。ヤンの軽快なエスニック・リズムに乗って高度なオクターヴ演奏が素晴らしい。
　１曲目の〈Focus〉は、ヴォーカル・ヴァージョンのスローな小曲で、ラストにもう一度同じテーマに戻り、各人のソロ・プレイが徐々に力強さを増して行く。３曲目の〈Sugar island〉は、カリプソ風のユーモアも感じさせるラテン乗り。４曲目の〈Anonymous〉は、ロマンティックなトランペットのイントロから一転してファンキーな展開にジャズ・ロック風。６曲目の〈Happy nightmare〉はＡＯＲ風の渋い演奏。

　実質ヤン・アッカーマンのバンドをフォーカスという名前にしてしまった新生フォーカスとしての初アルバム。サウンド的にはこの作品で独自の“フォーカス・サウンド”が確立された。本作のヒットにより、ヨーロッパや日本での人気を決定づけた。
　１曲目の〈Hocus Pocus〉は彼らのテーマ曲と言うべきシングル・ヒット曲で、ヨーデルおじさんのヴォーカルがユニークで楽しい。５曲目の〈Focus II〉はギターがフィーチャーされたメロウなナンバー。６曲目の〈Eruption〉は２３分余りの大曲で、ドラマチックで壮大な展開が素晴らしい。
